Higher Side Media — Central New York Real Estate & Architectural Photography

Our FAQ page is designed to provide quick and clear answers to the most common questions about our services and expertise. Whether you're curious about our project specialties or need more information on our offerings, you'll find the insights you need here.
01
How ready does a property need to be before the shoot?
We ask that staging, cleaning and decluttering are done before we arrive — not because we're rigid about it, but because the photos will only ever look as good as the property does on the day. Real life happens and we understand that not everything will be perfect. If something is slightly out of place we'll work around it where we can. For a full checklist of what makes a meaningful difference before a shoot, download our Pre-Shoot Prep Guide. The things on that list genuinely change the quality of the final images.
02
How long does a shoot take?
It depends on the size of the property and what's been requested. A standard residential listing typically takes between one and two hours. Larger properties, twilight sessions, drone work or video will add to that. After you book, we'll give you a realistic time estimate based on what's been ordered so you can plan accordingly.
03
What if the weather is bad on the day of my shoot?
Weather in Central New York is unpredictable and we're used to working around it. If conditions make exterior photography or drone work impossible we'll complete interior work as planned and schedule a separate exterior or aerial session. We don't charge extra for weather rescheduling on the exterior portion — it's not something either of us can control. Just reach out and we'll sort it out.
04
How quickly will I receive my photos and video?
Photography is typically delivered within 24 hours of the shoot. Video and edited reels generally take up to 72 hours depending on the scope of the project. If anything is going to take longer than expected we'll let you know before delivery — you won't be left wondering where your files are.
05
What areas of Central New York do you serve?
We're based in the greater Syracuse area and serve clients across Onondaga, Oswego, Madison and Cayuga Counties. That covers most of Central New York from the Syracuse metro area east toward Cazenovia, north toward Oswego and west into the Finger Lakes region. For larger architectural or commercial projects we're open to traveling further — just reach out and we can discuss.
06
What does a standard real estate photography package include?
Our photography packages include professionally lit interior and exterior stills delivered as high-resolution JPEGs, ready for MLS upload, your website and social media. We shoot with flash rather than the HDR processing used by most real estate photographers — it produces cleaner, more natural-looking images that hold up better across print and digital. Add-on options include twilight sessions, aerial photography and video walkthroughs. Pricing starts at $175 and scales based on property size and scope. Visit our services page for a full breakdown.
07
Do you shoot video and social media reels as well as photos?
Yes — video is a significant part of what we do. We produce property walkthrough videos, agent brand videos and social media reels for agents across Central New York. We also work with clients who aren't yet comfortable on camera — getting comfortable in front of the lens before we hit record is part of our process. Video packages start at $200.
08
Do you offer drone and aerial photography?
Yes. We offer aerial photography and video for listings, new construction documentation and architectural projects. Aerial work is available as a standalone service or combined with a photography or video shoot on the same day. Drone availability is subject to weather and airspace conditions.
09
Do you work with builders, architects and interior designers — not just real estate agents?
Yes — working with builders, architects and interior designers is a market we are expanding into more. For builders and architects we focus on documenting completed projects in a way that serves portfolio use, award submissions and client presentations. For interior designers we create portfolio and social media content that captures both the full room and the detail work. The approach for these clients is different from listing photography and we treat it accordingly.
10
Can you edit or fix things in post-production?
Every image goes through a careful editing process — professional color correction, exposure balancing and detailed retouching are all part of the standard delivery. We don't use outsourced HDR processing that most volume real estate photographers rely on. Every edit is done in house because we set a standard for quality that many high volume over-seas editors just can't do.

That said, great editing works best when it starts with a well-prepared space. Small things that are easy to address before we arrive — a cleared counter, open blinds, lights on throughout — tend to have a bigger impact on the final images than most people expect. Our Pre-Shoot Prep Guide walks through exactly what to do before we set foot on the property.
11
What file formats do you deliver and how do I receive my photos?
Photos are delivered as high-resolution JPEGs via a download link sent to your email via our ordering site. Files are sized for both web and print use. Video is delivered as MP4 files optimized for social media and web embedding. If you need a specific format or file size for a particular use just let us know when booking.
12
Do you use HDR photography like most real estate photographers?
No — and that's intentional. Most high-volume real estate photographers use HDR processing because it's fast and automated. We shoot with professional flash equipment instead, which gives us much more control over how a space is lit and produces images that look natural and clean rather than over-processed. The difference is most visible in how colors look, mixed lighting situations and rooms where HDR tends to produce that familiar unnatural glow. It takes more time and skill to do it right — which is why we do it that way.
